VAN WYK tennis

We are marriage partners as well as professional tennis coaching partners. Although we grew up on two different continents we are two individuals with very similar backgrounds. Coenie originates from Africa and Hana from Europe. Tennis has been the driving force in both our lives. We met in college in the USA where we both were on tennis scholarships. Together we now pursue our love for tennis further. We believe that tennis is a life long sport, an individual sport

as well as a team sport where you learn how to think strategically, analytically and find solutions on your own how to compete against others. We were both top junior players, Coenie in South Africa and Hana in Germany. The majority of our lives comprised of travelling and playing tournaments as well as teaching nationally and internationally. We enjoy working with people and teaching/improving their tennis skills.

Tennis, the game that I love, has been a part of my life from a very young age. I started the game when I was five years old and will continue to play for the rest of my life. As a junior I competed in many tournaments and was No 1 singles and doubles junior player in South Africa. I also captained the South African Junior Tennis team that toured the UK (1994). I also obtained a main draw entry to the Junior Australian Open (1995). At the age of 17, while still at school, I played tennis for the University of Stellenbosch and became the singles champion.

I was also awarded a full tennis scholarship to Auburn University at Montgomery in Alabama (USA) and then later to Oklahoma City University where I obtained my Bachelor’s degree in Exercise and Sport Science.

After college I was fortunate to get a sponsor who helped me to fullfill a lifelong dream of competing on the ATP Tour. I played on the Tour for 3 years and competed in over 30 countries worldwide. My highest ATP ranking was 414 in 2002. After the tour, I decided to concentrate on teaching. While teaching tennis in Hong Kong I became the No 1 singles and doubles player in Hong Kong (2010). In 2011 I played singles and doubles for the Hong Kong Davis Cup team. I have over 20 years of teaching tennis experience on 4 continents, which include Africa, USA, China and Europe.

Originally from the Czech Republic, I grew up in Germany where I was a top junior. I competed in ITF tournaments in my junior career. In college my team and I won 2 National NCAA titles at Brigham Young University Hawaii. At BYUH I studied Sport Management and was on a Full tennis scholarship. After finishing my Bachelor’s degree, I got an offer to be the Womens Tennis Asistant Coach at Hawaii Pacific University where I did my MBA in International Business. Recently I have been ranked # 8 in Hong Kong and # 1 in Mixed Doubles with Coenie.

I have 17 years of teaching experience in different countries, which include Germany, Czech Republic the US (Hawaii, NY) and Hong Kong. While in the USA I was teaching at Punahou school (private school where B.Obama went), I was the Tennis director for Hampton country day camp, located in Long Island, NY to name a few. Recently I have been teaching in Hong Kong for Tennis Asia. I am fluent in German, Czech and English and am certified by the USPTA and the Czech Tennis Association.

We hope this gives YOU the reader a better insight on who we are and our accomplishments.
